"First crack" is a pivotal moment in the coffee roasting process, denoting
the initial stage of bean expansion and moisture release. Characterized by
a distinctive cracking sound akin to popcorn popping, it occurs when the
internal temperature of the beans reaches its right level. This auditory cue
guides roasters in determining the roast level, influencing the flavor profile
and aroma of the resulting brew.
